Who we are
Find out what we’re all about
The Company
Scholars Edge
We’ve been training students and producing quality jobs since 2006, and have more than 35 years combined experience in the industry. Our students take matters into their own hands by successfully running their own business during the summer months. This has developed into a professional student network, which has provided hundreds of opportunities for student operators and painters each year.
Our commitment is focused on facilitating a premium experience for students in our competition, as they deliver the very best service in the painting industry. We achieve this through training, excellent products, and consistent communication, ensuring customers an excellent service and relationship experience.
The Company
The Culture
We stand by our Scholars
We know the painting business very well and we take pride in every job that we do. We believe in the quality of work that we provide to our clients – so much so that we confidently offer a Three Year Written Warranty on all workmanship.
AWARDED A+ BY BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
We believe in accountability and working hard to build a reputation that we are proud of. We are proud to have earned an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We have been able to earn and maintain this through our “Follow Through” company initiative and “We Are All Accountable” attitude.
FULL WORKERS’ COMP
COVERAGE
Full Workers’ Compensation Coverage is provided to cover all painters on all job sites in every province that we serve. Additionally, we operate with $5,000,000 in Liability Insurance coverage per occurrence.
ENVIRONMENTALLY
CONSCIOUS
We are a team of people very concerned about the impact of our actions on the earth. We have strict guidelines in place about our practices, and try to only use paints with low or no volatile organic compounds. We also recycle our paper and plastics whenever possible.
The Visionary
Jamie Wilson
Jamie Wilson, who founded Scholars Edge in 2006, has always had a thing for running his own business and taking on responsibility.
Like many budding entrepreneurs in small towns throughout Canada, his experience began with a newspaper route. Before long, he was experimenting with ways to increase readership on his route.
Everything he did in his early years was about wanting to make things happen, and take on more and more responsibility. Whether it was playing hockey, training, or going to school, Jamie always had the fire to challenge himself, along with the desire to excel.
During his late teens, he took on the challenge of running a small painting business in his hometown of Lantzville, BC. That’s where he truly discovered his passion for running a business. Though he was barely twenty, he was immediately marketing, hiring, selling, managing customers, and having to control costs. He enjoyed the experience so much he decided to create Scholars Edge, to provide the same responsibility and challenge to students across the country.
Jamie has shaped and branded Scholars Edge into the “The Business Ownership Experience”, a competition designed to challenge students in a way they never have been before. Along the way, Scholars Edge students will be given an online platform to showcase their talents to the world, kickstarting their own future careers.
The Gift of Play
EVERY JOB BOOKED HELPS KIDSPORT
With every job we paint, Scholars Edge Painting will donate $10 to KidSport. We will also match donations up to $5,000. Additionally, our team of student entrepreneurs will raise pledge money and participate in a triathlon over the summer. This team event is an excellent way to foster the team’s entrepreneurial spirit.
We have chosen to partner with KidSport as we believe it’s an organization that aligns with our goals and values. We believe sport provides young kids an opportunity to build confidence, just as Scholars Edge helps young university students build confidence through our business ownership experience.
