Hello, my name is Leah Brakel, and I am a student at UBCO. I am currently in my second year in science planning to major in kinesiology. Starting this May 2023, I will be running a student- operated painting company in the Rutland area. I will be working through a company called Scholars Edge which empowers university students to take on the responsibility of running their own business and getting some ‘on the field’ experience. I am fortunate enough to have been selected to run and provide a professional and personal business to homeowners who would like to support local students' futures. The reason I wanted to work with Scholars Edge is that I would love to work as a healthcare professional and one day open my own clinic which would require background business know-how. Seeing as my educational path may take over a decade, having the opportunity to have hands-on experience like this is harder to come by. I am a band and theatre kid at heart and love taking on new roles and challenges to grow myself as a person. I have been working since I was 14 starting as a ski instructor in a small town in Ontario where I grew up. While working there I earned a team of the year award by running the best group of instructors while being the head coach for my group. I have worked many other jobs since then and had the ability to start my own business when I was 16. From these experiences, I want to be able to provide you with the best customer service along with competitive prices to suit your needs with high-quality work.
